“I forgot what I wanted to write,” “This is not making any sense,” “Was it me that wrote this?”
If you are like me, writing, in general, is a difficult task to do. With the introduction of the Writing Process in this course, it made it so much easier to write my ‘Caught Narrative’ and even this blog entry. In past courses, I usually wrote my pieces of writing in one (1) attempt and got frustrated when I saw several mistakes throughout my work. As a result of being taught this process, I am now able to organize my thoughts on a step-by-step basis and recollect my ideas.

This image is an outline of the Writing Process which helps me to stay on task. Remember that writing is not a ‘one (1) shot’, you may go back or forward to different steps at any point in time.

I can relate to writing 'one shot' for any piece of writing I had to do. But as I learnt about the process and the steps involved, I got a clearer picture and is now able to write effectively
ReplyDeleteReading this reminds me of the photographers. They will take a shot, then another and another, and they will sort through the shots to pick those that are perfect for viewing. However, as students we always take one shot at writing and latter to find ourselves in an awkward, frustrating position. It's either our story doesn't read well or lost the essence somewhere along. As the photographers, we must take more than one shot at writing using the writing process with the aim of writing a perfect story in mind so that our final piece of writing will worth reading and even being publish.
ReplyDeleteFlashback to the days of primary school, and the writing process was no where in sight. We were simply given a topic to write about, the teacher made corrections and returned it to us so we could write it over on a clean sheet of paper for publishing. Basically, we were given 'one shot' at it. Where was the writing process? My classmates and I were shortchanged. I'm sure one of us might have had published books today. This made me realize the importance of the writing process. Well said Shawndell, you used a great example to capture the point of writing in more than one shot. This example can be shared with the students also as I'm certain they will view writing in a different light.
ReplyDeleteLike everyone of you here, I have also experienced the 'one shot' writing. As a result, it became habitual for me to complete a piece of writing in one sitting; that was a very tedious task.
ReplyDeleteHowever, because Mrs. Lazarus taught and explained the writing process so well, I myself have also gained a clearer understanding.
